Harry and Ivy at the zoo (for
semi_auto_magic)
"I have been to the zoo."
"A lot of times, right?"
"Yes."
"But have you been to the Lincoln Park zoo? Recently?"
"Well... no."
Harry smirked. "There we go, then. Let's go."
"What, now?"
"Do you have something better to do?"
"Well, we need to discuss..."
"And we can do that on the way. We can even go by Mac's and get some non-bachelor-grade food, too. Mac's has been used previously as a place to discuss things."
Ivy narrowed her eyes, looked over to Kincaid, who shrugged a little at her - your call - then glared at Harry and said, in that toneless, menacing way of his, "if this is some sort of stupid trap, Dresden, I'm going to have a bullet through your brain before you can even think to see it coming."
"Yeah, yeah. I know. Don't you think that if I wanted Ivy down, I'd have just had to step down and not do things a few times over?"
Kincaid's pale gaze met hers for a moment, he's got a point, there, then looked away.
"All right."
By the time they reached the zoo, Ivy was more or less liking the idea. And they were actually enjoying watching the animals, resting or pacing in their own areas. They even got snacks. Or at least Harry and Ivy did, Kincaid muttered something about keeping his hands free in case it was needed, but it was maybe about preferring Mac's food to anything offered here. Possibly.
And of course, Harry decided to toss a piece of his corn-dog into one of the cages; just because it was something people would do sometimes, when the large imprisoned eyes were following them with a longing.
Ivy's hand shot out and grabbed his wrist. "You're not supposed to do that."
"Come on, nobody would object."
"No, the people taking care of the zoo would. Says so right there." She pointed up and to the side with her other hand. Harry's eyes followed in that direction, then returned to her, eyebrows rising a little. "What?"
She looked.
The sign she meant was precisely where she'd said it would be. Obscured completely by the nearby-planted bush, the tendrils of which had crawled over the words, making them more or less part of a scenery, rather than a warning sign.
"Oh."
"Guess that means you owe me one."
She frowned. "Owe you one what?"
"Mmm. Something that you can't do for yourself, and I get to help you with it?"
Blinking. "O-kay?"
"Such as, say, letting me pick you up so you get a better view at the bears?"
Ivy was pretty certain that she couldn't say what the half-stifled noise from Kincaid was, since he couldn't have choked on something, he wasn't eating. She had that nagging suspicion he might have been laughing at her. Possibly. She glared at him, then with all of her dignity she could muster, nodded. "All right then, I think I can agree to that..."
